Our first meeting was held on 23rd August 2009 in Grand Stanford Hotel. During the meeting the first council was elected. All members of the society enjoyed a wonderful lecture by professor Esmonde F. Corbet titled "Periodontology through the ages" in this afternoon. It was followed by a buffet dinner, and there, members had a chance to chit-chat with others in a relax atmosphere.
The inauguration of our society was successfully held on 19th November 2009 in Prince Philip Dental Hospital. The nine council members of our society were introduced to the audience. It was followed by the greeting from our honorary advisers Prof. E. F. Corbet, Prof. N. P. Lang and Prof. L. J. Jin.
As a recognition to his contribution in the field of Periodontology in Hong Kong, we presented the honorary membership to Dr. Yeung Ien Sui Felix in that evening.
One of the highlight of the event must be the lecture by Prof. Robin Seymour. The title of the lecture is "Managing Periodontal Disease in the Medically Compromised Patients". It covered the issue of antibiotic prophylaxis before dental treatment, the adverse reaction arising from bisphosphonates, the management of patients on anticoagulants and long term corticosteroids. The controversy goes on after the lecture especially on the topic of antibiotic cover. Feedbacks are received requesting more information on the NICE guideline mentioned in the lecture. The guideline can be found at http://guidance.nice.org.uk/CG64/Guidance/pdf/English
The lecture was well attended with over 70% of occupancy of the lecture theater 1 in PPDH. The audience would agree that It was a rewarding experience attending the lecture.
